Are You Actually Ready for Mediation?
Most people walk into mediation thinking it's just a conversation and the mediator will carry the load in negotiation.
That’s not the case.
It's a negotiation. And like any negotiation, the people who prepare walk out with better outcomes. That's exactly what pre-mediation divorce coaching is designed to do: get you ready.
Why Preparation Matters
Many people enter mediation without fully understanding the process, the issues that need to be addressed, or what they want to achieve. When that happens, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, reactive, or unprepared when important decisions need to be made. Preparation helps you show up informed, grounded, and clear on what you want, which is at the heart of grounded decision-making during divorce.
What We Cover
Over five focused sessions (depending on your needs), we work through everything to prepare for your first mediation session.
Understanding the Process
We start with the fundamentals. How mediation works, what the mediator's role actually is, whether mediation is the right fit for your situation, and what your role and responsibilities look like going in.
Understanding the Issues
We dig into the real substance of your divorce: parenting plans, decision-making, time-sharing, asset and debt distribution, support matters, and everything in between. The goal is simple: nothing catches you off guard at the table.
Identifying Your Goals and Strengths
We move past your story and get strategic. Together, we'll identify your goals, concerns, and the skills you'll need most throughout the process, including emotional management, communication, mindset, and self-reflection. This is also where an emotional readiness for mediation checklist can help make sure nothing gets missed.
Preparing for the Conversation
You'll learn how to craft an opening statement, build an agenda, and formulate interest-based proposals. These become the building blocks of a productive mediation session.
Practice
This is where it all comes together. You'll rehearse your opening statement, refine your proposals, and practice responding to proposals so that when the real session happens, you're ready.
Ongoing Support Throughout the Process
I'll also provide consultations between mediation sessions, as needed, so we can regroup and adjust things as you move through the mediation process.
You Don't Have to Carry This on Your Own
Preparation won't eliminate every challenge, but it can help you approach mediation with greater clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
If you're navigating this process and want to feel more prepared and supported, you don't have to carry this on your own.
